Trying out software engineering

Diving In

As a computer engineering major, I never really had many opportunities to write my own code. I have typically focused on the technical aspects of computers. Now that I’m taking ICS314, a software engineering course, I finally get to take a step in and see what software engineering is like. Software engineering encompasses many aspects: from the languages you can use, or how efficiently you can solve a problem.

Improving my Portfolio

Personally, I’m interested in HTML development, so I can personally develop my professional profile rather than using a template. From my current experience setting up the Techfolio template to my likings, there was so much that you can customize. However, I feel like I was lost when navigating these branches, so I try to tread in familiar spaces that the professor has guided me. Being able to diverge my profile from the template would be a great accomplishment, as I could confidently say that I’m gaining more experience with developing in HTML.

Making Better Habits

One takeaway I would like to have from this course is object-orientated programming. Although I know the importance of such a concept, I’ve always strayed to creating all-in-one files, as most of the projects I’ve worked on was always small in scale, so I had no worries with fixing potential errors that could arise. Hopefully, I will be able to format my code more efficiently through this method, and reap the benefits of changing my workflow from working in a single file to having a organized system of files.
